Turkey

Sexual health resources for people living or traveling in Turkey. General information, not medical or legal advice.

Quick note for newcomers: Turkey has a strong two-track system: a public health system run by the Social Security Institution (SGK, Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu), and a large, modern private sector. Most newcomers can't join SGK right away — you generally need one year of legal residence before you can register voluntarily, so in your first year you'll rely on the private insurance you needed for your residence permit, plus out-of-pocket pharmacy and clinic visits. Pharmacies (eczane) are well stocked and pharmacists are a good first stop for many needs. Care quality is generally high, especially in private hospitals in big cities.

Need to talk to someone now? For the morning-after pill or condoms, go to any pharmacy — no prescription needed. For violence or abuse (including sexual violence), the Ministry of Family and Social Services runs a free 183 support line, 24/7, with support in several languages. In an emergency, call 112.
