Portugal

Sexual health resources for people living or traveling in Portugal. General information, not medical or legal advice.

Quick note for newcomers: Portugal has a public health system (Serviço Nacional de Saúde, SNS). Contraception is widely available and often free at public health centers, the morning-after pill is sold over the counter, and abortion is legal on request and free in the SNS. The key to public care is getting a health-service user number (número de utente) at your local health center (centro de saúde).

Need to talk to someone now? For the morning-after pill or condoms, go to any pharmacy (farmácia) — no prescription. For health advice any time, call the SNS line SNS 24 on 808 24 24 24. For victim support (including sexual violence), call APAV on 116 006 (free). In an emergency, call 112.
